I have not slept since Thursday. I came home Friday afternoon and saw a crow pecking at something and as I went up closer, it was a tiny kitten. It looked
  • 03
like it was there for some time on the hot asphalt rolling around crying out with stains next to it :
  • 04
I moved them away and under the shade of a bush in front of my house where I see lots of cats move in and out of. I kept an eye on

it to make sure the crow didn't bother it and to see if its mama comes back. Several hours passed, nothing. Eventually it was night time, so I decided to bring kitty into the house for the night and away from the cold. I've always

loved cats, but have never owned one (let alone a newborn kitten). I have roommates who don't like cats so they were not on board at first, but I convinced them since it was just a baby.

Let me tell you, I SCOWERED the entire internet to make sure I was doing the right things. I felt like I was cramming for an AP exam on Cat 101.

Luckily I found Kitten Lady. and I can't thank them enough. Using her as resource, I stopped by PetSmart to grab some KMR, a nursing bottle, and overnighted a SnuggleSafe on Amazon.

I combed through kitty to get rid of any insects as much as I could, upgraded them to a bigger box with a blanket, stuffed the box with warm water bottles, bottle fed it every 2 hours over the night, manually
  • 11
made it "go" each time, burped it, and dedicated my whole day and night to it's well being. And in the process, I guess I got attached in such a short amount of time... but I knew that I couldn't take

care of something that needed this level of care alongside a full time job without any help. Unfortunately, my roommates refused to help as well. So, I spent the

entire morning and afternoon looking for possible rescues to take them to, but because it's "Kitten Season" they are fully booked out of space and without foster care. I

called my city's animal care shelter to see as well, but was flat out told that if they were to take kitty in, they would only euthanize it due to a lack of personnel, resources, and its age - And I wasn't going to do that!

I finally came to a decision about 4 hours ago that I would just bite the bullet and struggle for the next month or so until it became more independent. So, I
  • 17
called up some Vets to ensure kitty is all healthy and found one that was able to see me the same day. Upon arrival, I told them the story and I was ecstatic when they told me that it was very healthy!!
  • 18
They asked if they could show kitty around and I said, "Sure!". Well, one person the Vet had shown asked if I was planning on keeping it after hearing my story.

I was honestly feeling a mix of emotions at that time because I had just faced rejection from everyone I approached for help with caring for my kitty while I was at work, and I was unsuccessful in finding a rescue for it. Immediately

before I decided to raise them. I was kind of in shock since I was coming in for a check up, and not to let them go at this point, but in the spur of the moment, I said:

"I honestly I would love to, but I have a full-time job and at its current age, I'm afraid I might not be able to give it the attention it needs".

At this point, kitty's fate was sealed. I exchanged contact info with the adopter in hopes they will keep me updated and said my final goodbyes. I let kitty keep the SnuggleSafe of course, in hopes it might

remember me in the deepest corners of their smol mind =) It was so bittersweet and I was not prepared for it. I walked to my car and just sat there for a few minutes.

After I got back home, I just laid in bed looking at our pictures together and thought that I made a huge mistake. I still have some regret right now, but I know it was the best decision for you. I can only

hope that the owner takes great care of you little one - I'll never forget you! I learned a ton of things these past couple of days, but the one thing I know for certain is that I love cats

and will adopt a kitty once I move! Thank you for reading this pointless tangent... I just had to get this off my chest because I'm a mess over a little kitten I found yesterday.
